Who was Karl Amadeus Hartmann, now regarded as one of the most significant composers of the 20th century, and why is the message of his works more relevant than ever? The permanent exhibition explores Hartmann as a composer in the resistance, his work during the Nazi era, the challenges of making a fresh start from 1945 onwards, and, last but not least, the founding and early days of the ‘musica viva’ concert series. Alongside texts and documents, an audio station offers insights into Hartmann’s composing studio. In the ‘composer’s room’, Hartmann’s grand piano is on display alongside original furnishings.
