“Openness, loyalty and brotherhood were the hallmarks of this relationship” – Hans Werner Henze (1926-2012) used these three powerful and complex terms to characterise his relationship with Karl Amadeus Hartmann (1905-1963), a composer who could have been his father in terms of generational distance.
In a new event format consisting of a lecture and reading, we would like to explore the multifaceted personal and artistic relationship between two great composers against the backdrop of the dynamics of 20th century music history.
Prof. Wolfgang Rathert will shed light on the background and approach of the edition, while the well-known journalist and presenter Sabine Sauer will read some excerpts from the correspondence. Both visualise the tension-filled constellation of three personalities who were each shaped by the challenges of their century in their own, but also shared, ways.
Entry fee 5 Euro
